Town of Mamaroneck Named Tree City USA For 32nd Year
The designation by the Arbor Day Foundation comes as the town completed planting 110 trees funded by a charitable grant.

TOWN OF MAMARONECK, NY — A seed planted more than three decades ago has strong roots in the community today.
The Town of Mamaroneck has just been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 32nd year, which the town says honors its commitment to effective urban forest management.
The town achieved the recognition by meeting the program's four requirements: (1) maintaining a tree board or department; (2) having a tree care ordinance; (3) dedicating an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and (4) hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

"Tree City USA Communities see the positive effects of an urban forest firsthand," Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, wrote in a letter to the town. "The trees being planted and cared for by Mamaroneck are ensuring that generations to come will enjoy a better quality of life. Additionally, participation in this program brings residents together and creates a sense of civic pride, whether it’s through volunteer engagement or public education."
The town says that the Tree City USA designation is the latest recognition of Mamaroneck’s commitment to enhancing its tree canopy and promoting better air quality.

The Virginia A. McGuire Foundation recently awarded the town $55,000 to plant 110 trees by April 30, 2025. The town completed planting all 110 trees this month, nearly one year ahead of schedule.
"The Town of Mamaroneck is actively working to preserve our community’s long-term health and environmental viability," Town Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney said. "This recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation validates our efforts as we strive to bring our Town to a carbon-neutral status while preserving the beauty and character of our community. Towards that end, I am delighted that the Town received the grant from the Virginia A. McGuire Foundation that enabled us to plant 110 trees!"
