Volunteers Needed For 2024 Hommocks Conservation Area Fall Cleanup

The special day for taking care of Mother Nature in the Town of Mamaroneck will coincide with International Coastal Cleanup Day.

MAMARONECK, NY — The leaves will be turning soon and football season is heating up, but first, it's time for the annual Fall Cleanup in the Town of Mamaroneck.

The town is looking for volunteers to help get the Hommocks Conservation Area back to its natural beauty, as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day.

The event will take place Saturday, September 21, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Organizers say that volunteers will keep track of every piece of litter they pick up which then gets combined with data from cleanups all over the world this fall for statistical purposes. This will help us all understand where the litter in the oceans come from and what it's made up of.

Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and boots or sneakers (no open-toed shoes) and to bring their own gloves and bug spray. Gloves will also be provided, along with trash bags, drinking water and snacks from Trader Joe's.
