Woman’s Club of Larchmont, Inc. Food Drive Collected Almost 500 food items plus Diapers!
Members and the Community Respond to Hope Food Pantry Need

Television and newspaper reports of intended cuts to SNAP sparked giving to Hope Food Pantry by Women’s Club of Larchmont, Inc. members and the community. A federal program, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), provides electronic benefits on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card to help eligible low-income households buy food. The EBT card is loaded monthly and is to be used like a debit card at participating retailers to purchase eligible food items. EBT cards provide a primary source of food assistance. But when these benefits are insufficient or interrupted, the need for food pantries increases significantly. They serve as a critical backup.
Therefore in addition to the food drives held at the monthly meetings of the Club, November 15th was the first of 3 Community Donation Days planned for the Club year 2025-2026. At the corner of Larchmont and Forest Avenues, Philanthropy Committee members Zsuzsanna Baan-Jonas, Sarah Anna Jonas, Gerry Gerace and Mary Ann Mazza worked steadily separating the items by category, organizing two carloads of donations. Between the two cars close to 500 food items were collected with an additional 369 diapers. In total a value of over $1500! Sr. Mary Alice, head of Hope Food Pantry, has been particularly appreciative of the reliability of these food donations. In addition monetary donations received will allow Hope to purchase in-demand items in bulk. The Club was able to present $230 towards this purpose. At the November Club meeting members were equally generous donating 185 food items and 84 diapers, with a total value of $446.
The next Community Food Drive will be Saturday, February 7, 2026 outside of The Larchmont Ave. Church from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. As always the Woman’s Club of Larchmont Inc. is most appreciative of the community’s continuous support and concern for our neighbors.
