NASSAU COUNTY, NY — In the race for the 6th Senate District, incumbent Democrat Kevin Thomas has defeated challenger Republican James Coll.

Newsday called the race for Thomas, who received 52,694 votes to Coll's 36,564 in unofficial results.

The 6th Senate District includes Bethpage, East Meadow, Farmingdale, Franklin Square, Garden City, Garden City South, Hempstead, Hicksville, Island Trees, Lakeview, Levittown, Malverne, Massapequa, Old Bethpage, Plainedge, Salisbury, Seaford, Uniondale, Wantagh and West Hempstead.
