A Visit With Local Veterans for Lee Road Students

By Elizabeth Sobel

As part of their study of U.S. government, fifth-grade students at Lee Road Elementary School in Levittown hosted an assembly with American Legion Post 1711 veterans Andrew Booth and Angelo Manzo prior to Veterans Day.

The discussion with the students did not center on military battles and world conflicts, but rather on the positive infrastructure developments made by servicemen.

“We were deployed to other countries to make them as good as ours,” said Mr. Booth, a marine. “We built roads and schools, and many places were better off after we were there.”

Mr. Manzo, a former U.S. Army sergeant, told the students that he benefited from the discipline he received and the emphasis on respect. He encouraged the students to do well in school and to respect each other and adults.
