Aromatic Architecture Comes To Abbey Lane: Photos

Students were joined by their parents for a multigenerational celebration Dec. 11.

LEVITTOWN, NY. — There are a million pieces of advice out there on how to turn a house into a home, but for Abbey Lane Elementary students, December brought the opportunity to turn a holiday sweet treat into a house.

The opportunity came in the form of gingerbread houses, as the students were joined by their parents to construct houses out of the warm-spiced cookie dough. Students were also able to make the houses their own, replacing shingles and siding with chocolates, peppermints and other kinds of candy.

"As parents and children unleashed their creativity, their strong bonds were on display," District officials said.

The gingerbread houses were wrapped at the end of the construction event to ensure that the newly constructed homes could safely travel home with students.
