Abbey Lane Cuts Ribbon On New Library
Third-graders Kate Bennett and Easton Sewitch assisted in the ribbon cutting at the new library.
LEVITTOWN, NY. — Abbey Lane Elementary students got the first look at a new library Friday, as administrators cut the ribbon on the school’s refurbished library.
The library renovation featured new bookshelves and cushioned seating, with an area full of books greeting students as they arrived. Once all of the students had filed in, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Beth Zirogiannis led the students in a guided reading session, reading Lu Fraser’s “The Littlest Yak” aloud.
District officials said the new-and-improved library will be the centerpiece of many lessons going forward, helping to create a love of reading in the elementary school’s students. The ribbon-cutting comes just a week after the district celebrated Pick A Reading Partner week, with a series of Harry Potter-themed celebrations.
