Division Ave, MacArthur Rank Among Top Schools In New Report

U.S. News & World Report classified the high schools in the top 10 percent of the state and the top 20 percent of the country.

LEVITTOWN, NY. — MacArthur High School and Division Avenue Senior High School were both named best schools by U.S. News & World Report this year, certifying them among the top 10 percent of schools in the country and the top 20 percent of schools in New York State.

The news came in a “State of the District” presentation delivered by Deputy Superintendent Beth Zirogiannis at the Levittown Board of Education's Nov. 19 meeting.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are compiled through a weighted composite score that includes state assessment preparation, college readiness, college curriculum offerings, graduation rate and underserved student performance. MacArthur ranked 1,185th nationally, while Division Avenue ranked 2,124th out of over 25,000 eligible schools.

“This is a testament to the rigorous, high-quality education that our students receive day-in and day-out from our dedicated staff,” Zirogiannis said.

The class of 2025 graduated at a 95 percent rate, with two-thirds of those graduates earning an advanced regents diploma. 73 percent of them will attend four-year universities, with an additional 14 percent pursuing two-year degrees, 3 percent attending vocational programs and 7 percent enlisting in the military or entering the workforce.

Levittown students also passed the regents exam at above the county average in 10 disciplines, headlined by a 16-point higher passing percentage in physics relative to the rest of the county, a 13-point over performance on the living environment regents and 12-point over performances in both Algebra I and Geometry.

“Our students are not just meeting the standard, they’re dramatically outpacing their peers across the region. This success is the result of the consistent, focused work of our teachers and directors. They continuously review student data, analyze test questions and collaborate to improve mastery rates and instructional practices.”

While the district was quick to report overperformance relative to the rest of the county, district officials also reported 229 more AP exams being taken across the district in 2025 than in 2024, with a 7 percent increase in the percentage of students who scored at or above a “3” on those exams. The district also issued 49 AP Capstone diplomas in 2025, nearly doubling the 2024 total of 25 capstone diplomas.

“Most of all, I want to congratulate our students, who continue to raise the bar for success,” Zirogiannis said
