Enjoy the warmth while you can, because temperatures are about to plummet.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Get out your winter coats, because a freeze is about to hit Long Island. Cold temperatures are coming Friday and Saturday, which could drop temperatures to around freezing overnight.

Temperatures are predicted to drop nearly 20 degrees from Thursday to Friday, the National Weather Service says. Thursday is warm and sunny, with a high in the upper 60s. But rain is going to roll in tonight and drop the temperature. The high for Friday is only going to reach about 49 degrees, and Saturday will be the same.

The real cold will come overnight, though, when temperatures fall to near freezing Friday and Saturday. The cold temperatures could create areas of frost through Long Island Friday night into Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said.
