LEVITTOWN, NY — A comedy fundraiser is being held to support Israeli charities.

The "Stand-Up for Israel" event is on Thursday evening at Governor's Comedy Club in Levittown. All proceeds will go toward Israel.

Comic Michele Fox organized the benefit and booked Jewish comedians to join the show.

She'll perform along with Eric Haft, Olga Namer, Rich Voss and John Ziegler.

"None of the comedians are taking money," Fox told Patch. "Everyone was so generous with their time."

Governor's Comedy Club owner James Dolce said he's also "donating the room and the staff."

Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 8 p.m.

"It's a wonderful way to fight back by raising money through laughter and love," Fox said. "It's not an 'anti-anything' show. It's a 'pro-show.'"

But given the dramatic rise in anti-Semitism, Fox found some negative comments about the show on her Facebook page.

Those isolated responses aside, the show is gaining overwhelming support and is expected to sell out.

Fox isn't concerned about protesters. Two other fundraisers for Israel at Governor's went off without a hitch, although some people did threaten to protest, she said.

The club's security will take extra steps to protect, but additionally, Fox said, the credit card purchases "can be easily tracked."

Admission is $35 per person. There is a two-item minimum per person.

You can reserve your seats by purchasing tickets online.
