Hempstead Town Council Unchanged After Trio Of Elections
Tuesday's elections saw 2 Republicans and 1 Democrat retain their seats on the Council.

HEMPSTEAD, NY. — The Town of Hempstead will have an unchanged Town Council come January, after incumbents Dorothy Goosby, Laura Ryder and Dennis Dunne dispatched of challengers Tuesday.
According to unofficial results by the Nassau County Board of Electios, Goosby, the senior councilwoman in the town, won reelection in the first-district over Republican challenger Jean-Baptiste Carelus. Goosby won by a more than 50 percent margin, receiving 12,747 votes where Carelus received 3,396. Ryder’s fourth-district race was the closest of the three, dispatching of Democrat Darien Ward by receiving 17,293 votes, 55.63 percent of the vote. Ward received 13,778 votes, or 44.32 percent. Finally, Dunne won almost two-thirds of the available vote for his sixth-district seat, defeating Democrat challenger Matthew Pasternak with 19,217 votes, or 62.12 percent of the vote, compared to Pasternak’s 11,706, or 37.84 percent.
For Goosby, the new term will be a continuation of a 26-year career in Hempstead’s Town Council. Goosby will continue going to work in a building that has borne her name since 2020. Tuesday marked the first election win for Ryder, who was appointed to the board in 2023 after Anthony D’Esposito was elected to Congress.

Tuesday’s elections saw mixed results in the County legislature, where Republicans hold an 11 to 8 majority after unofficial tallies, but firmly Republican victories at the county level. County Executive Bruce Blakeman and District Attorney Anne Donnelly both retained their positions Tuesday. Elsewhere in Hempstead, Supervisor John Ferretti won reelection over challenger Joe Scianablo.
