Island Trees School Budget Passes

$59 million budget has a 2.29 percent tax levy.

Island Trees voters passed the district’s 2013-14 budget Tuesday night, with 540 voting yes and 239 voting no.

Incumbents Barbara Medellin and Kristen Daum ran unopposed and have been re-elected to three-year terms.

The $59,177,477 budget has a tax levy of 2.29 percent and includes the elimination of one school bus for $70,000 and the reduction of staffing due to lower enrollment, which saves $280,000.

Island Trees Superintende of Schools Charles Murphy released a statement Wednesday:

The Island Trees community has a great history of supporting their school budget. In this challenging budget year, I'm fortunate to work with a Board of Education who has their pulse on the community and understand our school district so well.

They were an integral part of the budgetary process and a great help facilitating a 73% passing rate. Lastly, a big congratulations to Kristen Daum and Barbara Medellin with their re-election to another three year term.
