Kevin Law Nominated To Lead Empire State Development Council
Law has been active for years in groups trying to enhance Long Island. If approved, he would oversee work to improve the whole state.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Kevin Law, the former president of LIPA and the Long Island Association, has been nominated by Gov. Kathy Hochul to lead the Empire State Development Corporation.
Law, 60, has been incredibly active in the business and real estate world of Long Island, and has served on many different boards dedicated to growing the area.
"After the devastating impact the pandemic had on New York's economy, we need the best of the best at the helm to lead our recovery," Hochul said.

Empire State Development is a state-run initiative to grow New York's economy and encourage businesses to build and invest in the state. It also invests in local infrastructure and job-training programs to help make areas more appealing to businesses.
A resident of St. James, Law has been involved with groups all over Long Island. He is currently a partner and executive vice president at Tritec Real Estate Development Company, where he also chairs its Affordable Housing Team.

He spent more than a decade leading the Long Island Association, a local business group that advocates for growing the region's economy. During his time there, he helped get get more than $5 billion for infrastructure investments on Long Island.
Prior to working at the LIA, Law served as the president and CEO of LIPA. He was also the chief deputy county executive for Suffolk County.
Law currently serves as chairman of the Stony Brook University Council, serves on the board of the MTA, is chairman of the Long Island Housing Partnership and is chairman of Accelerate Long Island.
He has also been the co-chair of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council for the last decade.
Law's appointment is subject to approval by the State Senate. He will assume his role as chair of Empire State Development if approved.
