'Outstanding Achievement': LI Cheer Squad Wins 1st Place At Nationals

It was a day of pride, joy after years of hard work as the Levittown Pride Cubs won the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship.

LEVITTOWN, NY — History has been made by a local cheerleading team.

The Levittown Pride Cubs took first place at the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando this weekend. It marks the first time a Nassau County team entered the recreation division at the event and became champs.

Many of the athletes had been cheering with the team for up to nine years.

"They were nervous. They were ecstatic. They were nervous again," Coach AnneMarie Guerra said. "On day one, it was probably a little shocking to walk out there and see the lights."

Levittown faced off against 11 elite squads from across the country.

"Congratulations to the Levittown Pride Cubs on their outstanding achievement at the 2025 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship!" the Levittown Pride Football & Cheer said. "Securing first place in the Open Rec Affiliated 12Y division is a testament to their dedication and hard work over the past nine years."

The Levittown Pride Cubs is a youth cheerleading team consisting of athletes ages 10 to 13 who have been competing locally for nine years through SCYCA, an organization that includes youth teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The team is primarily comprised of players from the Levittown School District.

"Congratulations to all these hardworking athletes on your well-deserved victory!" Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray said.

Guerra was joined by two of her children as coaches: Sofia Guerra and Eva Guerra, both who are cheerleaders at Hofstra University.

"Getting this chance for them was amazing," Guerra said. "Now they're hungry for it and they can not wait to get to their high schools."
