Levittown Seniors Receive Letters Of Commendation

They were recognized by the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program as Commended Students.

LEVITTOWN, NY — Three high school seniors from the Levittown Public Schools were recently recognized as Commended Students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. Simar Parmar from Division Avenue High School, along with Andrew Baek and Eunice Lee from General Douglas MacArthur High School, are among about 34,000 students who received this honor for their academic promise after earning high scores on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Aside from their strong academic skills, all three Levittown seniors play active roles in their school communities. Parmar is the class president, president of mathletes and is a member of the Science Olympiad team, girls varsity lacrosse team, and Key club. She is also the captain of the girls varsity soccer team, a peer leader and tutor, and is involved in the school’s National Honor Society and World Language Honor Society.

Baek is a member of the Math, National and World Language honor societies. Outside of school, he volunteers at a local hospital. Like her peer, Lee is also involved in the Math and National honor societies, along with the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She is a talented musician who participates in the chamber ensemble and has performed in noteworthy music festivals. In addition, Lee is a peer leader, member of Science Olympiad, environmental club and is part of the school’s tennis and badminton teams.

Although Parmar, Baek and Lee will not continue on in the competition, some Commended Students can become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
