Levittown Students Strike High Notes of Achievement in Music

By Elizabeth Sobel

The Levittown School District is pleased to announce that student-musicians Kara Burke of Division Avenue High School and Brianne Giuliano of MacArthur High School have been selected to participate in All-State ensembles at the annual NYSSMA Winter Conference, to be held at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, N.Y. from Dec. 5-8.

Thousands of students auditioned for this honor last spring during solo and ensemble festivals throughout the state.

Kara will sing alto I for the All-State Mixed Chorus and Brianne will play the double bass in the All-State String Orchestra.

In addition, flutist Brianna Chua from Division Avenue High School and MacArthur High School tenor I John Sawula and trombonist Jenna Thomas have been selected as NYSSMA alternates. Although these students will most likely not attend the Winter Conference, being named an alternate is a prestigious honor and indicates that they are among the top musicians in the state.
