Story by Liz Sobel.

Four Salk Middle School students in the Levittown School District were honored by the National Parks Service for poetry submitted in an inaugural contest about Theodore Roosevelt at Sagamore Hill. There were over 200 entries for this contest.

Maya Escalera and Alex Hesser received second and third place, respectively, in the eighth-grade category. In addition, David Ariyaratnam and Kristi Ryu received second and third place, respectively, in the sixth-grade category.

During the awards ceremony at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay, the students were asked to read their poems to the audience. Each winner received a certificate and commemorative prizes.
