LONG ISLAND, NY — After a weekend that saw record-setting high temperatures across much of Long Island, a cold front is moving through the area and prompting a freeze warning — and possibly bringing the first snow of the season.

The National Weather Service said that record-high temperatures were set at LaGuardia, JFK and MacArthur airports on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 72 degrees in some locations.

But those highs were short lived. A cold front has moved into the area, and now temperatures have plummeted to 5 to 10 degrees below normal. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s for most of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to drop to around 30 degrees Monday night into Tuesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a freeze watch for southern Nassau County.

In addition to the low temperatures, a storm will hit on Tuesday night and into Wednesday. With the cold, it could produce the first snow of the season. But if it did, it wouldn't stick.
