The weather early this week will be beautiful and sunny. Unfortunately, things won't stay that way.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Showers and thunderstorms in the middle of the week will be book-ended by warm weather and sunny skies on Long Island.

According to forecasts from the National Weather Service, Long Islanders can look forward to sunny skies and mild temperatures Monday and Tuesday. But rain is likely to roll in Tuesday night into Wednesday, and stick around through Thursday.

The rain could be heavy at times and turn to thunderstorms. The rain is expected to clear out by Thursday night, leading to a beautiful and sunny Friday.

Unfortunately, the rain is likely return this weekend, which could dampen plans.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 80. Light southwest wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 75. South wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Low around 63. South wind 11 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. High near 76. South wind 11 to 13 mph.
