LI Weekly Weather: Lots Of Rain Ahead, Especially During Commutes

Drives to and from work could be tough this week, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast at the most inconvenient times.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A wet, rainy week is ahead for Long Island, and it could hit hardest during commutes Wednesday and Thursday.

Though the week stared off nice, the weather is going to take a turn tonight. Rain is going to roll in before midnight, and then likely stick around until the weekend.

There could be heavy rain during Wednesday morning's commute, according to the National Weather Service. And there's also the chance for thunderstorms during the Thursday evening commute.

The rain will begin to taper off on Friday, and should clear up by Friday night. The weekend should be mostly sunny.

Tonight: Rain likely before midnight, then showers between midnight and 3 a.m., then rain after 3 a.m. Steady temperature around 48. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain, mainly before 3 p.m., then a chance of showers or drizzle after 3 p.m. High near 53. East wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers or drizzle, mainly before 9 p.m., then a chance of showers after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 46. Northeast wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: A chance of showers before 9 a.m., then a chance of rain between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. High near 54. East wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 3 a.m., then a chance of rain. Low around 47. East wind 6 to 11 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday: A chance of rain before 9 a.m., then a chance of showers after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
