LONG ISLAND, NY — Some rain early in the week is going to give way to sunny skies and mild temperatures as the week endings, according to the latest forecast for Long Island.

The National Weather Service says today will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures in the high 50s.

But the rain is going to come in soon. There's a chance rain could start tonight, but it's likely to come Tuesday.

Thankfully, Tuesday is the only rainy day. Some showers could continue into Wednesday morning, but they should be gone in the early morning.

Once the rain clears, it's clear and sunny skies for the rest of the week, with temperatures in the upper 50s.

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. Southeast wind around 7 mph.

Tuesday: A 50 percent chance of showers, mainly after 8 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 47. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 37.
