LI Weekly Weather: Thursday Rain Breaks Up Otherwise Wonderful Week

LONG ISLAND, NY — Most of this week is going to be gorgeous, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service. Long Islanders can look forward to sunny skies and mild temperatures, until a bit of late-week rain dampens things.

According to the National Weather Service, highs will be in the upper 60s for the first half of the week, with only a few clouds in the sky.

Rain moves back into the forecast early Thursday morning, and there's a good chance it will rain during the day, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. The rain will likely continue all day before tapering off early Friday morning.

After the Thursday rain, though, things go back to being sunny and warm.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 68. Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 52. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Light southwest wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59.

Thursday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3 a.m., then a chance of showers. Low around 55. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 9 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.
