Man, 87, Struck By Motorcycle In Suffolk On July 9 Succumbs To Injuries, ID Released: Cops

He was at a local hospital where he had been in critical condition with head and leg injuries, Nassau police say.

LONG ISLAND, NY — The 87-year-old man who was struck while crossing the street in Valley Stream on July 9 died at a local hospital, Nassau police said.

A 33-year-old man was riding a 2023 Ducati motorcycle southbound on Rockaway Parkway at the intersection of West Jamaica Avenue when he struck Harold Dickert, of Plainview, at around 9:30 a.m., according to police.

Dickert was taken by a Nassau police ambulance to a local hospital where he was in critical condition with head and leg injuries, police said, adding that the operator of the motorcycle remained at the scene and refused medical attention.

He was the first of two men to die in a day in Nassau County following crashes involving motorcycles.

The investigation is ongoing by the police department's homicide squad, its Public Information Bureau said.
