More Than A Dozen Catalytic Convert Thefts Reported In Nassau
More people reported the part was stolen from their vehicles this week, police said.
NASSAU COUNTY, NY — The theft of catalytic converters from cars is on the rise across the country, and Nassau County is no exception.
A catalytic converter is part of a vehicle's exhaust system. It converts the engine exhaust to less hazardous gases, and uses valuable metals to do so. Catalytic converters can contain platinum, palladium or rhodium, which make them prime targets for thieves, since they can sell the metals for scrap.
The Nassau County Police Department reported these thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles for the week ending Oct. 13:
