Safe Center LI Permanently Shuts Due To 'Ongoing Financial Challenges'
Nassau County "will step into the void on a temporary basis," County Executive Bruce Blakeman said.
BETHPAGE, NY — The Safe Center LI ceased operations on Friday. It was the only organization in Nassau County providing comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault.
The closure comes "due to ongoing financial challenges and the absence of a clear transition plan to ensure continuity of services," Safe Center LI posted to its website.
All of Safe Center's services, including Safe Home, Hotline, Advocate response and Child Advocacy Center staffing have been terminated.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said the county "will step into the void on a temporary basis with the assistance of Nassau University Medical Center."
Blakeman said in a statement that they will "make sure there is no interruption in service and that women and their families are protected going forward."

The county also suggests anyone in need of services shouldn't hesitate to call the Nassau County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Hotline at 516-542-0404.
