LI Woman Attacked Officers Who Gave Her Son Ticket: Police

Police say she hit one officer with a crutch, and later punched another in the face.

LEVITTOWN, NY — A woman was arrested Monday after Nassau Police say she attacked officers who were giving her son a ticket.

According to police, officers pulled over a 20-year-old man in front of 3839 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown at 1:54 p.m. for driving with an expired sticker and suspended license. While the officers were investigating, police say the man's mother, 47-year-old Melinda Medina, of Levittown, arrived at the scene and became aggressive with the officers.

Police say she used a crutch she was walking with to hit one officer, and then spat at others. She was placed under arrest and taken to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation, police said.

While she was at the hospital, police say she punched an officer in the face and damaged their body camera.

Medina was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and three counts of second-degree harassment. She is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
