The LHS Program is a flexible framework that could incorprate all school activities, helping youth to develop the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship.
Teaching the pillars to Lindy students has translated into the Souper Bowl of Caring, but it's also a national movement started by youth, according to literature about the fundraiser (see the PDFs, above, right).
"They believed they could use the energy around our nation's biggest sporting event to inspire Americans to make a difference," the literature said. "After 20 years, the (nationwide) movement has grown to include more than 14,000 groups, and has raised more than $50 million to help fight hunger and poverty in local communities."
To that end, all of the proceeds from this local annual LHS charity cook-off will go toward two good causes: Island Harvest and Habitat for Humanity.
According to the student event organizers, the fundraiser - set for , from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., in the LHS Cafe - is open to all.
In addition to the cook-off - which had to be postponed last year until due to snowy weather in January - there'll also be a Chinese auction, raffles, food, beverages and a DJ.
All donations will be accepted, according to student organizers, and there'll be plenty of soup, chili and home-made breads and baked goods to eat.
The food is being donated by local restaurants, high school clubs, sports teams, faculty members, PTA and community organizations, they further noted.
For more information about the charity cook-off event, please check out the PDFs provided by (above, right).
