Car Crashes into N. Lindy Home

Police say a woman lost control of her car on Straight Path and crashed into a house on 49th Street after getting hit by another car attempting to cross Straight Path.

The occupants of a home on 49th Street in North Lindenhurst got an unwelcome surprise on Friday afternoon when a black Nissan Altima sedan into it.

According to Suffolk Police on the scene, a woman driving in another car was attempting to cross from 50th Street on the West side of Straight Path when she apparently clipped the Altima that was heading South.

"The woman driving the car (Altima) lost control, crossed over into Northbound traffic, and went up onto the sidewalk and across the lawn of one home before heading straight into the front window of the second house," police said.

According to the homeowner's niece, who lives at the home with her mother, and her boyfriend, who was there at the scene - all of whom asked not to identified by name - it appeared the woman in the Altima couldn't or didn't attempt to brake at all before crashing.

The niece was sitting in the living room on the couch when the car came crashing into the house. She wasn't hurt, and said no one else in the hosue was either.

"My uncle and my mom were at the other end of the house," she said.

Her boyfriend said he rushed over from his job as a trainer at LA Fitness after receiving her last text, which was, "Someone just drove through our living room."

After crashing into the house, the niece said the female driver got out of the car and was walking around, and appeared not to be injured.

However, she was taken to the hospital by the rescue anyway, the niece said.

The female driver of the other car - a red Eclipse - pulled onto 49th Street following the accident. She wasn't taken to the hospital, and Suffolk Police said the only car towed was the Altima while the other car sustained minor damage.
