Copiague Man Who Neglected 13-Year-Old Dog Charged With Animal Cruelty

The man failed to provide veterinary care for the dog, resulting in its extreme discomfort, Suffolk County SCPA says.

LINDENHURST, NY — A Copiague man was charged with animal cruelty on Friday after he failed to provide veterinary care for his dog, keeping the dog in extreme discomfort, Suffolk County SCPA said.

After an investigation, SPCA detectives determined that Joseph Rini, 57, failed to provide care of Muffin, his 13-year-old Shih Tzu, after receiving a complaint.

Officials said that Muffin was extremely matted, covered with feces and urine, had overgrown nails, left eye was crusted shut and a double ear infection causing pain and discomfort.

Rini was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty. He is scheduled to appear in First District Court, Central Islip on April 13.
