Driver Charged With Intentionally Hitting Suffolk Cop: Police

The 20-year-old drove off after striking the officer, police say.

LINDENHURST, NY — A man who intentionally struck a police officer and two police vehicles in North Lindenhurst last month was arrested and charged on Saturday by Suffolk County Police.

Christian Castillo, 20, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest, police said.

On March 9, at about 7:35 p.m. on 50th Street,Castillo intentionally crashed a 2022 Mercedes-Benz C20 into two police vehicles and intentionally struck a police officer on foot, police said. He then drove off in the Mercedes.

The officer on foot was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police offered a reward of up to $5,000 to anyone who could provide information about Castillo that would lead to his arrest.

Castillo was arrested in Moriches on April 15 at about 9:33 p.m., following an investigation by the Major Case Unit,

He was arraigned on Sunday and is due back in court on Friday.

Patch has reached out to the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County, who is representing Castillo, for comment.
