Evelyn Ellis, Village Historian, Dies at 92

Ellis lived her whole life in Lindenhurst, and was the historian for 42 years.

Evelyn M. Ellis, Lindenhurst Village historian and lifetime resident, on May 15. She was 92.

She joined the in 1953, and was the historian for the Village for 42 years.

"She'll always be remembered as the Village historian," said Mayor Tom Brennan, who noted her roots in Lindenhurst go very deep, having lived all of her life in the Village, in the same house her mother and father owned.

"She lived in the same house all of her life. She knew everything about Lindenhurst. We're going to miss her. She was an institution," concurred Deputy Village Administrator Doug Madlon.

"There won't be another Evelyn Ellis," he added.

Ellis was married and very close to her late husband Sidney.

She was the devoted mother of Lane S. (Diane) and adored grandmother of Deanna. She was reposed at the late last week.

In lieu of flowers, the family has said donations to the would be greatly appreciated.
