Hess Undergoing Canopy Replacement This Week

Gas station will be closed throughout the duration of the next week.

The Hess gas station located on Montauk Highway will remain closed through next week as the business undergoes a canopy replacement.

"The Lindenhurst station is undergoing a canopy replacement which started earlier this week. We expect the work to be completed next week," a company spokesperson told Patch.

Throughout the work on the station at 222 Montauk Highway, the gas pumps will not be usable, the spokesperson said. The Hess Express convenience store, however, will remain open throughout the entire reconstruction period.

The unexpected scene left a few residents questioning what happened to the decades old gas station as the pumping area was reduced to a pile of rubble surrounded by a temporary fence.

The canopy, of course, provides some protection from the elements such as rain or snow and provide a good deal of light during the night time for drivers.

Some gas station canopies come equipped with fire extinguishing sprinklers in the event of an emergency.

The Hess spokesperson also told Patch an update would be passed along in the event of a delayed reopening. Patch will bring you the latest in case of that event.

The next nearest Hess stations are located on Sunrise Highway and Straight Path in Copiague and Great East Neck Road and Little East Neck Road in West Babylon.
