In early June, Lindenhurst High School’s science department held its second science research symposium, aptly titled “Changing Minds One Discovery at a Time.”
Winners of the middle school science fair were present, along with Dr. Daniel Wulff, professor of biology at University of Albany and director of science research in the high school program for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
“The symposium is a great experience for the students,” said Coordinator of Science Chrystie Young. “They have the opportunity to dive deeper into the sciences and explore topics meaningful to them. This exposure to research will allow them to take what they’ve learned at Lindenhurst and apply it to their future studies.”

Also in attendance was special guest speaker Todd Goldstein, a doctoral candidate of Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine and the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research Laboratory. The researcher, who is currently working to find solutions for pathologies related to bone, cartilage and tendons, is studying the use of 3-D printers to create materials that can be implanted into humans as tools for regenerative treatments in the orthopedic and medical fields.Â
