Lindenhurst HS Students Appear on 'The Challenge'

Five LHS students take on McGann-Mercy High School on January 23 in the first round of the academically focused TV quiz show, now in its 15th season.

Five students will appear on The Challenge, the academically focused TV that airs on MSG Varsity.

Advised by LHS teachers Catherine Katsionis and Veronica Bruno, the - , (captain), Danielle Vozzo, Emily Crichton and Allison Perna (alternate) - will appear in an episode that'll air , , at 6:30 p.m. on Cablevision’s iO TV Channel 14.

They'll take on students from Riverhead's McGann-Mercy High School in the first round of the quiz show that's been showcasing the best and brightest students from the tri-state New York area for 15 seasons.

LHS is one of 192 high schools to compete for the title of Tri-State Champion on MSG Varsity, and is one of 32 schools from Suffolk County represented on the show this season.

Participating schools advance through a series of elimination rounds, with one school in each region being crowned regional champion and winning $2,500 for their school.

The winning teams from each region go on to The Challenge Championship where they square off in a Tri-State Showdown.

The school awarded the title of Tri-State Champion will receive $10,000 in prize money, and each participating student in the final Challenge Championship game will receive $500.

“We’re proud to celebrate academics on MSG Varsity through The Challenge, and to provide these extremely bright students a platform to showcase their talents with their communities,” said Theresa Chillianis, MSG Varsity’s General Manager. “Good luck to all of this year’s teams.”

Competing student teams are tested on their knowledge of history, arts and literature, current events, math and science in front of a live studio audience.

The show is hosted by Jared Cotter, back for his third season. Cotter, a popular semi-finalist from American Idol, also hosts MSG Varsity’s Talent Show.
