Lindenhurst Schools Remain Closed Mon. & Tues.

District officials say there's no school for students on Monday and for the regularly scheduled Election Day holiday, but the call for staff will be made on Monday for Tuesday's Superintendent's Conference.

Lindenhurst Schools will be closed on November 5 and 6 due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Lindenhurst School District officials told Lindenhurst Patch on Saturday afternoon there will be no school on Monday and for the regularly scheduled Election Day holiday on Tuesday.

However, officials said the call for staff will be made on Monday for Tuesday's Superintendent's Conference, and that it could depend on the gas situation.

As for whether or not schools will remain closed on Wednesday, November 7, officials said the call will be made on Tuesday.

The District will be sending a School Messenger message out to parents and posting it on the website, where it said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with those families who have been impacted by this catastrophe."

It also hopes word of mouth in the community will help get word to those impacted families South of Montauk Highway - which has been largely decimated by Sandy's fury and record-high flood waters - who don't have power restored yet.

Officials said power has been restored to all schools in the District, expect for Bower Elementary School - which was closed 2011 - and for Harding Avenue Elementary School - which, they said, is fine.

Officials echoed what Superintendent Richard Nathan told Patch on Wednesday, that the school had some water in the boiler room, but it's been pumped out and cleaned up.

However, with no power officials said the District will be discussing how to handle the education of Harding's students, possibly sending them to different elementary schools in the District, depending on the power situation South of Montauk.
