Lindy Locals Oppose Recycling Company's Expansion Plans

Noisy recycling company plans to triple production and construct a new building.

A group of Lindenhurst residents are up in arms over a plan to potentially expand a recycling company's production by up to three times.

According to CBS2 New York, One World Recycling LLC is making a request to the state to triple its production from 370 tons to 1,110 tons daily in addition to constructing a new larger building.

One World Recycling is located at 685 North Queens Avenue in a small industrial area.

Neighbors living near the company told CBS they already deal with noise and dust, as well as an odor from the plant nearby – something they do not want to see (or smell) more of.

“It’s not good for their health," said Joanne Mineo, who lives nearby on Constance Court. "I don’t know what kind of long term damage it would do to them, but the pollution is just horrible."

Mineo, a camp parent for the Fresh Air Fund Kids, said many of the children have to spend the summer indoors due to their neighbor's bustling trucks and pollution given off.

Village officials told CBS they had rejected the expansion plans already for One World Recycling.

"We believe that facility is above capacity right now," said Kevin McCaffrey, deputy mayor of Lindenhurst. "We’ve had more than our fair share of problems with them and we are adamantly opposed to any expansion."

Petitions with both sides of the expansion plan are available currently at Lindenhurst Memorial Library.

One World Recycling's manager refused to speak with CBSonly stating the owner had no comment.
