Local Street Renamed for Vietnam War Veteran

West Babylon's Eleventh Street renamed in honor of recently deceased veteran.

The Town of Babylon officially renamed a West Babylon street in honor of a Vietnam War veteran who passed away last year.

The town held a ceremony on Sunday, July 28 on the corner of Third Street and Eleventh Avenue to hold a renaming ceremony for the latter in the memory of Chief Petty Officer Joseph J. Osman.

The ceremony featured much of Osman's family, Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilman Tony Martinez and members of the West Babylon Fire Department.

Osman was a lifelong resident of West Babylon who served during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry for actions taken while patrolling the rivers of Vietnam.

Osman passed away last July.
