Looking Back at the Fires of 2013
Remembering the blazes this past year and those who fought to save neighbors and property.

House fires are nearly unavoidable in any Long Island village for a full year, let along in a tightly packed area such as our own.
In the past year, our local fire departments have battled blazes big and small and risked their lives to save our neighbor's as well as their homes. Today we look back at the hard work these brave men and women have put in as well as what the flames claimed in 2013.
Lindenhurst FD Responds to Copiague House Fire
The Lindenhurst and North Lindenhurst Fire Departments helped respond to a Copiague house fire that occured near the border of the Village at around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29.
The fire, at 298 28th Street in Copiague, ripped through much of the home, leaving the top floor mostly burned and the outside siding melted off of the house's structure.

NLFD Responds to Basement Fire in Vacant Commercial Building
A basement fire in a vacant commercial building located at 19 East Sunrise Highway triggered a carbon monoxide leak and caused the adjacent Wellwood Avenue on ramp onto Sunrise Highway on the South side of the highway to be shut down for a short time on Wednesday afternoon.

The North Lindenhurst Fire Department responded to the fire in the building that sits next to Pizza Hut, and was able to clear the building of very high levels of carbon monoxide related to the fire.
The vehicle reportedly caught fire around 1:15 a.m. in Lindenhurst, with the power still running as the flames engulfed the entire car.
Fire Engulfs Home on E. Hoffman Avenue
A fire department member at the scene said that none of the home's residents nor the firefighters appeared to be injured in the blaze. Suffolk County Police said they did not receive a report of any injuries in relation with the fire.
The three-story home on fire is located at the corner of S. High Street.
Fire Department Fights Backyard Blaze on S. 2nd St
A backyard fire is out after the Lindenhurst Fire Department reportedly put it out earlier this afternoon on South 2nd Street in Lindenhurst.
A nearby neighbor told Patch the fire began at around 4:30 p.m. in the backyard of a home between East Hoffman Avenue and West Gates Avenue on South 2nd Street.
