Police: One LHS Student Arrested, One Sent to Hospital after Classroom Fight

A at between a junior and a senior on Monday sent one to the hospital with a broken jaw and the other to jail, according to Suffolk Police.

"Two students got into a fight in a classroom on Monday morning over some name-calling - they had an argument that turned into a fight," Inspector Gerard Gigante, First Precinct Commanding Officer, told Lindenhurst Patch Thursday.

"An ambulance had to be called for the boy, Christopher Meyer, who was in 11th grade. He was brought to the hospital, and was admitted with a broken jaw," Gigante said, who said school faculty broke up the altercation which happened at about 10:30 a.m.

The other boy, a senior at the high school, was arrested for assault, according to the inspector.

"He was arrested at the scene, and brought to the First Precinct," Gigante said. "He was charged and released on station house bail. He has a court appearance next month."

Gigante had no other details about the boy who was arrested at presstime.

However, 11th-grader Meyer told News 12 Long Island he was "viciously attacked" by "a senior in one of his classes who got mad at him over something on Facebook."

He said he felt "grateful to be alive."

According to the News 12 online report, Meyer was still in the hospital following surgery.

The report also indicated that " the student for five days, pending a superintendent hearing, which should happen sometime this week."
