Pedestrian Struck And Killed On Sunrise Highway: Police
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
COPIAGUE, NY — A driver was arrested and charged after his car struck and killed a pedestrian in Copiague on Monday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.
Baudilio Zamora, 45, of Copiague, was crossing Sunrise Highway southbound at the intersection of Bethpage Road around 1:30 p.m. Ian Laylor, 33, of Hicksville, was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima traveling westbound at the time, and struck Zamora.
Zamora was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Officer of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

Laylor was not injured. He was arrested and charged with for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, police said.
He received a desk appearance ticket and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
