PTA Council Awards Scholarships to LHS Seniors

Several received scholarships at this year's Lindenhurst Council of PTAs' Award, Scholarship and Installation , held recently at .

“We had eight scholarship recipients who received $1,000 each,” said incoming PTA Council President Julie Cicchetti about the event where the Council presented the scholarships, as well as several awards, and installed new officers in back .

The scholarships given out to last Wednesday night were as follows:

• Dr. Anthony J. Pecorale Highest Scholastic Average Scholarship: John Rinaldi
• Lawrence Lobaugh Scholarship: Christopher Thomson
• Howard J. Triani Memorial Scholarship: Danielle Vozzo
• Grace Marie McGraw Memorial Scholarship: Matthew Reddington
• Further Studies Scholarships: Kayla Erb, Brittany Berrent, Samantha McPadden and Megan Donohue

The PTA Council has been handing out scholarship since at least the mid-1980s, according to Cicchetti.

Scholarships are decided by a three-person committee consisting of a chairperson, co-chairperson and PTA presidents from each unit, Cicchetti added.

Long-time PTA member Linda Williams, outgoing Council President Laura Chapter and Principal Dan Giordano were recognized for their hard work and dedication and received special National PTA Awards.

Those awards were as follows:

• Distinguished Service Award: Dan Giordano
• New York State PTA Honorary Life Award: Linda Williams
• PTA Rock Star Award: Laura Chapter

"It’s a good feeling to come off a successful two years and about to turn it over to Julie Cicchetti and the new board. I wish them future success,” Chapter stated.

The Friends of PTA Award was also given to Atlantic Toyota.
