A Lindenhurst woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the August 30, 2011 death of her brother.

According to a report on KeysNet.com, Colleen O'Malley, 56, was staying with her brother, Raymond Moffitan, 64, and his wife, Dana, 54, in Key West when Moffitan died.

Police said in the report that O'Malley gave Moffitan two patches of Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opiate that's often used to relieve pain. They ended up killing him, police said in the report.

O'Malley admitted, the reports said, that she asked the Moffitans if they wanted to use Fentanyl patches - even though they had no medical need for them.

O'Malley reportedly had a prescription for them because of pain from a car wreck.

The KeysNet.com report said that O'Malley and Dana Moffitan told police they agreed to O'Malley's offer of the patches, and that O'Malley put the patches near their shoulder blades.

"Mrs. O'Malley said she did not think the patches would harm the victim," according to the police report cited on KeysNet.com.

Dana Moffitan also told police she took her patch off around 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. because she couldn't sleep and it "irritated her." She returned to bed, according to the report on KeysNet.com, and when she later awoke, she found her husband dead.

Monroe County Medical Examiner E. Hunt Scheuerman reported on September 26 that he died by Fentanyl intoxication, the KeysNet.com report said.

Dana Moffitan further told police that her husband didn't have an insurance policy or pension, and had little savings, according to the same online report.
