Residents Reporting Car Break-Ins in South Lindy
Lindenhurst residents say valuables stolen from cars with open doors overnight.

A rash of car break-ins during the middle of the night have been reported by many residents in areas of southern Lindenhurst over the past few weeks.
A group of residents woke up Monday morning to find their vehicles on South Fourth Street broken into by thieves overnight, stealing whatever they could find from cars with open doors.
At least one car thief made off with credit cards, attempting to use them at local stores before being reportedly denied, according to one resident on Facebook.
Others on the social network reported similar problems on nearby streets including South Sixth Street and other Lindenhurst homes near Montauk Highway.
Suffolk County Police in the past have warned residents to lock their vehicles when they are not nearby and keep expensive items inside your home or with your person at all times as to not attract unwanted attention. Commonly drug addicts will break into vehicles and sell whatever they find for money, police officials have noted.
One resident noted they might have captured the potential thieves on a security camera, riding their bikes in the area late at night. Suffolk County Police caught a group of car burglars a few months ago with a similar style of checking cars for open doors and taking whatever they could from within the vehicle.
Suffolk County Police said in an email to Patch there were no reported car break-ins since November 1 in areas from South 1st to 11th Streets.
It is suggested residents lock all doors on their vehicles to help curtail the break-ins, as well as not keeping valuables in the cars.
Patch will continue to look into this story as more details emerge.
