Talk Back Poll: Do You Support the School Budget for 2012-13?

The vote for the Lindenhurst School Budget for 2012-13 is less than two weeks away on May 15. Are you for or against this year's proposed budget?

The $141.7 million proposed and approved by the Board of Education has an associated 2.45 percent tax-levy increase.

That 2.45 percent tax-levy increase is less than the 3.55 percent the district was allowed under New York state law, but above what the residents here in Lindenhurst think it should be.

In last week's Talk Back Poll 60 percent said they weren't happy with the 2.45 percent increase because it should've been less than the two-percent tax cap originally passed by New York State last year.

The poll sparked a discussion about whether or not residents support this year's budget, and how they'll vote on May 15. The majority on the comment thread said they'd vote "no."

Residents also brought up the on-going teacher contract talks. Many felt it was time for teachers to give back while others defended teachers and TAL (teachers' union).
