Video: Town Says Babylon DPW Crews Are Out Sanding & Salting

Babylon Town officials assure Linhdenhurst residents that crews are focusing on keeping the roads 'safe and driveable' during today's snowfall - the first of the season.

The Department of Public Works has been out since early Saturday morning keeping the roads clear, according to town officials.

"DPW crews were mobilized at 6 a.m. this morning," said Tim Ruggeri, spokesman for Babylon Town. He spoke with Lindenhurst Patch this morning.

"We got out early, and we've been focusing on sanding and salting the roads as soon as possible," he said.

No plowing, however, as he noted that, thus far, there hasn't been enough to plow.

"We're just making sure that the roads are safe and driveable. And most of the streets have been sanded and salted," he said, adding, "The entire fleet is up and running today."

The town advised its residents in Lindenhurst and elsewhere to stay home unless they absolutely must go out.

"As always they should stay off the roads unless it's absolutely necessary," Ruggeri said, who noted that, "Thankfully, it doesn't look like it's going to be a major snow event."

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that's for Suffolk County. And the snow - with some pockets of sleet - is expected to continue until this evening, tapering off to flurries.
