Village Tree Lighting, Parade Set for Sunday

The Annual Village of Lindenhurst Tree Lighting Ceremony and Parade starts at 4:30 p.m. at Shore Road Park.

The Village of Lindenhurst Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Parade is set for this Sunday, December 2.

It's sponsored once again by the Lindenhurst Historical Society, and the Lindenhurst Kiwanis Club and Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce are providing refreshments.

According to Village Trustee and Lindenhurst Historical Society Member Maryann Weckerle, the parade route has been changed.

"The Parade traditionally begins at Fireman's Park," Weckerle wrote in an e-mail to Patch on Thursday.

"The Parade will now begin at 4:30 p.m. from Shore Road Park," she continued. "[It'll] travel East on Shore Road, turn and go North on South Wellwood Avenue, and continue to Monument Plaza at Hoffman Avenue. Upon completion of the Parade the Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin - approximately 5:15 p.m."

The change, Weckerle said, was made to bring some holiday cheer to residents South of Montauk Highway who've suffered so for the past month from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

"We invite all residents to come out along the Parade route, enjoy the Parade and come into the Village afterward for the Tree Lighting," Weckerle said.

The Parade comprises all of the Lindenhurst Fire Department fire trucks decorated for Christmas, Mrs. Claus on the antique fire truck, Santa on the last truck, and the Village Board and members of the Mayor's Beautification Society handing out goodies, she added.
