Offshore Storm Flooded Lindenhurst's Shoreline on Sat.

It's been nearly a full year since Hurricane Sandy battered our island with brutal winds and an enormous storm surge that is not soon to be forgotten – especially with stark reminders seemingly showing up all the time.

Flood waters rose up again across the southern portions of Lindenhurst on Saturday – an ironically sunny skied day – as an off-shore storm pushed water up onto streets and low-lying areas across the village on Saturday.

Portion of Ocean Parkway Dunes Swept Away by Weekend Storm

A recently repaired portion of the Ocean Parkway dunes near Gilgo Beach was back into the ocean after pounding waves caused by an offshore storm system washed away the ground near the roadway.

The Ocean Parkway was heavily damaged by storm surge from Hurricane Sandy last October, closing the roadway for months as crews worked around the clock to fix the road after it collapsed into the ocean.

New Cameras, Panic Buttons Considered During Security Workshop

The Lindenhurst Board of Education is considering a full upgrade of the district's security camera software, panic buttons and other items after a security workshop at Lindenhurst High School last Wednesday.

New camera software was shown off by Lee Mandel, the chief executive officer of Intralogic Solutions of Massapequa, that would allow the district to continue using existing camera systems with many additional features, including vehicle and person tracking, and visibility from a central point for any camera.

Police: One Injured in Montauk Highway Car Collision

At least one person was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday evening on Montauk Highway, police said.

An unidentified man was riding what appeared to be a motorbike at around 8:36 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a sedan traveling along Montauk Highway at Wyona Avenue.

Sen. Schumer: Sign Up Now for Federal Sandy Aid

Federal aid for victims of Hurricane Sandy is on the way and there's more than enough to go around, according to Senator Charles Schumer.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon in front of the Sandy-affected Lindenhurst home of Mary Collins and Don Werle on Granada Parkway, Schumer urged residents who had not applied for aid under the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program to do so now.
