Arson Bomb Squad, Fire Marshal Investigating Oceanside Fire, Fire Chief Says

The joint investigation seeks to determine the cause of the three-alarm fire.

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. — The Nassau County Fire Marshal and Nassau County Detective Arson Bomb Squad are investigating the cause of a Saturday fire at a vacuum store on Long Beach Road, Oceanside Fire Department Chief Sean Costigan said Monday.

The investigation carries on days after CBS News reported a fire broke out inside a closed vacuum store on Long Beach Road. According to that CBS News report, local firefighters were joined for mutual aid by roughly 150 firefighters from more than a dozen fire departments to put out the fire, which started just after 5:30 p.m.. In a Saturday night Facebook post, Long Beach Fire Department reported being called for aid at 5:51 pm., while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“Whenever we call out the Fire Marshal’s office for a fire investigation, they both come; the Fire Marshal’s office investigations unit and the Nassau County [Detective] Arson Bomb Squad,” Costigan told Patch Monday morning.
