Driver Trapped After Truck Downs Electrical Pole
Power cut in area around Lindell-W. Hudson intersection.
The driver of a tractor-trailer was trapped in his cab after a power line fell on the vehicle in Long Beach Wednesday.
According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the driver was traveling north on Lindell Boulevard at West Hudson Street at about 5:55 p.m. when he snagged a power line that was attached to a pole on the northeast corner. Unaware that the wire was snagged, the driver travelled a few more feet and the pole snapped and landed between the cab of the truck and the trailer.
“When the fire department units arrived, the driver was still inside the truck,” said LBFD Chief Richard Corbett. “He was an experienced driver who knew to remain in the truck.”
The fire department secured the area around the downed wires, kept in contact with the driver and notified the Long Island Power Authority.
