The office of Immigration &amp; Refugee Services is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice to counsel, process, file, and represent clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and EOIR Immigration Court. Our organization provides essential support to Ukrainian Humanitarian parolees through the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriation to Resettlement Agencies (USARA) Program. Through USARA, we help individuals and families achieve stability, economic independence, and successful integration into the community. We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Our staff offers a wide range of social and employment services, including: • Development of a personalized self-sufficiency plan • Case management and referrals • Employment services, job search skills, and work experience opportunities • Outreach and community support • Social and cultural adjustment assistance • English language support • Help with school, benefits, and local resource navigation • Transitional services and employment retention support We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Long Beach firefighters battled a fire at a two-story residence on the Presidents Streets during the wee hours of Sunday morning. According to Chief Rich Corbett, the fire apparently broke out in a second-floor living room at 128 Harding Ave., but residents were not home at the time.  "A good Samaritan was treated and transported to Long Beach Medical Center for smoke inhalation," Corbett said. The firefighters contained the blaze within about 20 minutes, and left the scene about an hour and 20 minutes after receiving the call Sunday morning.  "It didn't appear suspicious," Corbett said about the start of the blaze. Larry Kirschner, a Harding Avenue resident, said the firefighters woke him sometime between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Sunday. "I heard the fire engines and a lot of fire department people were walking up and down the block," he recalled. "They were here a good 45 minutes to an hour."
